Weirton Legion ladies auxiliary events detailed

The American Legion Post No. 10 Ladies Auxiliary held its monthly meeting July 15 at the Legion hall in Weirton with Shirley Brecht, president, presiding at the business session.

Chaplain Marcy Spano gave the invocation, and reports were given by Clara Robinson, secretary, and Gloria Jerrel, treasurer.

Robinson read letters from students who attended Girls State and a thank-you note from the Veterans Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Announcements included:

The Sons of American Legion, Post 10, Weirton, will host a steak fry from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Legion hall;

Attorney Gen. A.G.Morrisey will be at the Mary H. Weir Public Library at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Refreshments will be served by several members from local organizations in Weirton.

The picnic will be held Aug. 18. It will include drawings and two gift cards as door prizes. Tickets will be six for $5.

The auxiliary will conduct a cabbage roll sale on Sept. 14 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Legion hall. Patrons should bring their own containers. They will be made Sept. 13, beginning at 9 a.m. Sept. 8 is the cutoff day for orders which can be placed by calling Brecht at (304) 748-7967; Gloria Jerrel at (304) 723-3434; and Pat Folden at (304) 797-1076.

The Veterans Day dinner will be Oct. 27.

The auxiliary will hold its annual Christmas party at 6 p.m. Dec. 3 at Undo’s in Weirton.

Lois Curcone was voted in as a new member.

Refreshments were served by Loretta Fabian and Robinson. Folden and Chris Boyd will serve in August.

Wanda Perrone won the 50/50 drawing.

The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 19.
