Walking 60 miles for a cure
NEW CUMBERLAND – A craft fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at the New Cumberland Fire Station to support a local woman’s participation in the Susan G. Komen Philadelphia 3-Day.
Lisa Baxter of New Cumberland, who will be joined by friend Justine Bucholz of Boardman, will walk 60 miles Oct. 4-6 to raise awareness and funds to combat breast cancer.
The Saturday event will include jewelry, home decor and food.
Some of the vendors include Tastefully Simple, Origami Owl, Paparazzi and Tutus and Bows. A quarter auction will be held at 11 a.m. during the fair.
To participate in the walk, both Baxter and Bucholz must raise at $2,300 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, which funds research and community outreach. Baxter and Bucholz will walk their 60 miles over the course of three days.
Walkers cover about 20 miles a day with hundreds of dedicated volunteers and crew members supporting the walkers through the three-day journey.
Each year, more than 200,000 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in women and nearly 2,000 cases are diagnosed in men in the U.S.
