Benefit dinner nets more than $8,100
Donna Sheets, a member of the Wintersville Ladies Auxiliary of Post 557, suffered a debilitating aneurism and stroke Jan. 30 and is recovering but has no medical insurance.
With that in mind, the auxiliary and Wintersville American Legion Post 557 joined forces to host a benefit April 6 to raise money to help pay her medical expenses.
The event included a live auction, a Chinese auction and several drawings with more than $8,100 raised.
All proceeds go directly to cover her expenses during this long recovery process, according to event organizers.
Of the money raised, $1,000 was donated by the Legion. Wintersville Post 557 Commander Terry Hare presented a check for that amount during the benefit to Melissa Mackey, Sheets’ daughter.
