Toronto Day in Florida set for Feb. 23
Toronto Day in Florida is coming up on the 2013 calendar.
This year’s event will be held Feb. 23 at the Ardella Baptist Church, 709 West Pipkin Road, Lakeland, Fla., according to the TDIF committee.
Ten rooms have been reserved for Feb. 22 at the Avenue Hotel located at 3405 South Florida Ave., Lakeland, Fla., 33803. The phone number for the hotel is (863) 646-5731. The e-mail address is www.theavenuelakeland.com.
The rate is $69 plus tax, the same rate as in 2012. Participants should use code TDG when reserving a room. A continental breakfast is provided for hotel guests.
The schedule of events so far include:
- Feb. 22: Dinner at 6 p.m. at Beef O’ Brady’s in the Public Plaza on South Florida Avenue.
- Feb. 23: Coffee and social time at Ardella Baptist Church beginning at 10 a.m. with lunch there at noon, followed by introductions, reports, door prizes and keynote speaker Fred Jeans, Class of 1956.
Jeans is an ordained Methodist minister, having spent 29 years as a pastor serving in the East Ohio Conference. During that time, he had extensive training in family and marriage counseling.
He currently is the chaplain at Sebring Health Care Center in Sebring, Fla., and has spent the last four years as an active member in the Tea Party Movement in central Florida, delivering the main address at many meetings.
Jeans and his wife, the former Delores Glasure, Class of 1958, have three children and four grandchildren.
