Criss Family Scholarship grows

The Criss Family Scholarship at Eastern Gateway Community College increased with an additional donation by the family to the college foundation.

The check was presented by Kim and Jeff Criss to Patty Sturch, dean of enrollment management and registrar.

The scholarship was established in 2009 to assist local residents who are pursuing an associate of applied business degree.

The Criss family has owned and managed local real estate and insurance agencies since 1951 and recognizes the important role the college plays in furthering the education and developing the skills needed to be successful in a business environment, an EGCC spokesperson said.

The scholarship is awarded on merit.

Patterson scholarship gets boost

Dr. W. Hunter Vaughn presented Eastern Gateway Community College President Laura Meeks with a check to add to the Kimberly J. Patterson Scholarship, which was established in 2007 to assist local residents pursuing a degree or certificate, based on need.

Vaughn and his wife, Cheryl, provided funds to start the Patterson Scholarship as well as the W. Hunter Vaughn M.D. Scholarship in 2008. The latter scholarship assists residents who pursue an associate of applied science degree in radiologic technology.

The selection of a second-year radiologic technology student is based on merit.

Vaughn serves on Eastern Gateway’s Radiologic Technology Advisory Committee and as the medical director of radiologic services at Trinity Health Systems.

Meeks noted Eastern Gateway’s Foundation is actively seeking funds to create 50 new scholarships by the college’s 50th anniversary in 2018. Interested parties should contact the Eastern Gateway Foundation at (740) 264-5501, ext. 405 for information.
