Evening of family-friendly comedy, magic on Feb. 17 to benefit health center
An evening of family-friendly comedy and magic is in store for patrons planning to attend a fundraiser for the Jefferson County Fourth Street Health Center being organized by the Young Ambassadors.
A dinner and evening of songwriter/comedian Heywood Banks’ “crazy antics” and opening act magician Dennis Regling will be held Feb. 17 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Mingo Junction.
Doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $30.
“We would love to see the community come out to help support the health center while enjoying a great dinner and good, clean fun,” said Barb Steitz, co-chair along with Jaye Lynn Needham.
“Both Heywood and Dennis put on a squeaky clean show sure to please everyone,” Steitz added. “We chose to have the show early so that families can enjoy the show and not be out late on a Sunday night.”
Steitz said Banks is “a songwriter-comic-singer-poet-musician with a show that appeals to businessmen, yuppies, rednecks, kids and grandma.” He intersperses his humorous observations of life with twisted, inventive, bizarre songs, sung and played in a variety of styles, from folk, to country to rock to pop and beyond, she said.
“He has been featured on Rolling Stone Magazine and People Magazine. He has appeared on ‘Evening at the Improv,’ ‘Entertainment Tonight’ and is a frequent guest on the Bob and Tom radio show,” she said.
Regling’s comedy magic show “is full of laughter and audience participation,” according to Steitz. He is a master magician and balloon artist who has performed at the Victoria Vaudeville Theater in Wheeling, the International Children’s Festival, the International Hamburger Festival and the National Chicken Wing Festival.
Ohio Catering will provide a buffet dinner with dessert. A cash bar will be available.
Tickets are available by contacting Steitz at (740) 283-7028. No tickets will be sold after Feb. 10.
The Young Ambassadors committee members are Steitz and Needham. Advisers are Anne Misselwitz, Rick Patterson and Mary Lou Jones.
