WORKSHOP SET: The West Virginia Small Business Development Center will offer a business fundamentals workshop from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. March 15 at West Virginia Northern Community College in Weirton.
Led by Ed Powell, the session will cover getting a business license, identifying the market and writing a business plan that will build credibility with potential lenders.

The workshop is part of the center’s Three Start Jump program, which involves one-to-one meetings with its business coaches.
NAMED: Bruce Shearer has been hired as senior vice president, director of special assets, by First National Bank, the largest subsidiary of F.N.B. Corp.
Based in Pittsburgh, Shearer is responsible for managing and making credit decisions for special assets in FNB’s Pittsburgh Region and its Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, Piedmont Triad and Eastern North Carolina regions.
Previously a senior vice president and team leader at Huntington National Bank, Shearer has nearly 30 years of financial services experience, having served in leadership roles in areas, including commercial loan management, loan work-out and credit.
A resident of Pittsburgh, Shearer earned his bachelor of science degree in finance and accounting from La Roche College and is a member of the Turnaround Management Association’s Pittsburgh Chapter.
DIVIDEND PAYMENT: The Board of Directors of United Bancorp Inc. increased the first quarter cash dividend payment to $0.13 per common share.
Scott A. Everson, president and chief executive officer said, “Our company’s most recent increase in the regular cash dividend payout level is in recognition of the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act enacted on Dec. 22, 2017, which is projected to lead to an increase in the level of earnings that we realize in the current year. After increasing the regular cash dividend payout level by $0.01 in the third quarter of 2017 and paying a special cash dividend of $0.05 in the fourth quarter of 2017, this is the third consecutive quarter that our company has either increased the regular cash dividend payout level or paid a special cash dividend to its loyal shareholders.”
United Bancorp, Inc. is headquartered in Martins Ferry and has total assets of $459.3 million and total shareholder’s equity of $43.9 million as of Dec. 31. Through its single bank charter, Unified Bank, the company has 18 banking offices that serve the Ohio counties of Athens, Belmont, Carroll, Fairfield, Harrison, Jefferson and Tuscarawas. The company also operates a loan production office in Wheeling.
New anchor: CBS News has named Margaret Brennan as moderator of the Sunday morning political talk show “Face the Nation,” replacing John Dickerson.
Brennan has been one of the substitute moderators, along with Nancy Cordes and Major Garrett, since Dickerson left the Washington-based show to join “CBS This Morning.” CBS News President David Rhodes announced the appointment on Thursday. Brennan officially takes over today.
She’s the White House and senior foreign affairs correspondent for CBS News, and interviewed Secretary of State Rex Tillerson for “60 Minutes” this past weekend. Brennan will leave the White House but continue reporting on foreign affairs for the network.
She worked at Bloomberg News and CNBC before joining CBS in 2012.
