Moe’s on Main offers unique crafts
FOLLANSBEE — Those looking for something different to give as a Christmas gift or present for any time of the year are encouraged to visit Moe’s on Main at 1031 Main St.
The new shop is owned by Elmer “Moe” Myers and Monica Rotellini-Myers, and while Elmer’s likeness can be found on the sign above, both have been given the nickname “Moe” at various times in their lives.
Married for 16 years, the couple said they are enjoying operating a business together in the city where they live.
Following a ribbon cutting by the Follansbee Chamber of Commerce, they said they have received positive response since opening at the former site of HR&S Video.
The store brings together an assortment of handmade items produced in the Tri-State Area and beyond.
Among their more popular merchandise is the Oh Snap! line of interchangeable jewelry and accessories, as well as Touch of Amish jams, jellies and salsa and Royal Suds bath items, said Moe.
Monica added visitors to the store will find many unique items not found everywhere.
Among them are the creations of Keyz Karanza of Moundsville, who carves and paints football team logos and other images in styrofoam; or transparent Christmas bulbs filled with colored beads, glitter and the wings of dead butterflies made by Heather Tokas of Wellsburg.
Tokas, who breeds butterflies for release at weddings and other events, said the insects typically live two to eight weeks while in a safe, home environment, and using the wings is one way to preserve their beauty.
Monica’s mother, Carol Boyce, also has contributed embroidered towels and T-shirts and vinyl signs bearing humorous or inspirational messages.
The pair, who have sold their own wares at festivals and fundraisers and continue to do so, said the shop offers area crafters a regular place to sell their products.
Those interested in selling handmade items through Moe’s on Main can call (304) 527-7320 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Moe said the arrangement keeps the store’s stock fresh, and patrons often will find something different on the shelves with repeat visits.
Moe’s on Main is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. It is closed on Tuesdays and Sundays.
