STEUBENVILLE — The Trinity Emergency Assistance Relief Fund at Trinity Health System’s Teramana Cancer Center saw its funding increase by $25,010 as a result of the fourth-annual Together for a Cure soccer tournament and cancer fundraiser.

The event, held Oct. 1 at Harding Stadium, brought the soccer  teams from Steubenville, Catholic Central, Indian Creek and Edison high schools together for a day of competition and to raise money for the T.E.A.R. Fund, which is designed to provide emergency financial assistance for cancer patients.

Through the efforts of volunteers, parents and community members, this year’s total exceeded the 2015 total by $5,300. Since the tournament was started, nearly $65,000 has been donated to the fund, organizers said.

The event shows what a community can do when its members work together toward a common goal, organizers said.

Pupils from Wells Academy, Pugliese West, Catholic Central and Bishop John King Mussio middle and elementary schools also held various activities to help raise money for the event. Their total was $1,273.
