Days Inn of Cadiz now open for business

CADIZ – The seat of Harrison County has gone from having zero hotels to two in the span of just a few months.

The Microtel Inn & Suites located on Lincoln Avenue, won the race to open first back in June, but the hotel now faces competition from the Days Inn, which opened Aug. 31.

Manager Vanessa Moyer said business has been picking up as word gets out that the new business located on Cadiz-Jewett Road is ready for patrons.

The 77-room, four-floor hotel will have a grand opening sometime in October, with the date yet to be announced.

Moyer said that event likely will be by invitation only, but an open house for the general public also is being planned. She also said people are welcome to stop in and have a look around.

The hotel’s amenities include a conference room, fitness room, complimentary breakfast, all-day coffee and on-site laundry. Handicap accessible rooms include walk-in showers and more floor space than a typical hotel room, and all rooms have HDTV, free WiFi, air conditioning, a microwave and a mini-fridge. The hotel is pet-friendly.

Executive Housekeeper Mary Mills said the hotel isn’t just for workers in the gas and oil industry.

“We’ve seen a little bit of everything,” she offered. “There have been families here.”

The Days Inn employs 16 people, and Moyer said any expansion of the work force would be dependent on the hotel’s occupancy. She said hotels of the Days Inn’s size typically employ between 15 and 20 people.

According to Moyer, the hotel is owned and operated by HBS Hospitality.

The village of Cadiz moved quickly to take advantage of the two new hotels, recently implementing a 3 percent bed tax. Revenue from the tax, which went into effect Sept. 1, is placed into the general fund, and 50 percent is contributed to the convention and tourism bureau of Harrison County.
