New pet shop opens in Follansbee

FOLLANSBEE – Anthony Perrone has moved to Follansbee, bringing with him an assortment of four-legged, furry and feathered friends as well as a variety of pet supplies.

Perrone said he hopes his new business, Anthony’s One Stop Pet Shop at 1031 Main St., will fill a niche by offering quality animals and pet supplies at affordable prices.

The Steubenville native worked with a dealer of dogs and pet supplies at the Treasure Island Marketplace for five years. When the dealer decided to retire to Florida, he bought the stock and set out to establish his own brick-and-mortar business.

Within the shop are friendly dogs in a variety of breeds, including shih tzus, Chuahuas, Yorkshire-Maltese mixes and Yorkshire-terrier mixes, as well as birds, reptiles, hamsters, guinea pigs and in the future, rabbits.

Perrone said he deals with six dog breeders, having interviewed more than 100 to find those he is most confident provide their canines with the best care.

He said all of the dogs undergo an examination by a veterinarian before coming to his store and all have received the required vaccinations.

Perrone said the dogs also are covered by a six-year warranty and if one is found to have a life-threatening condition, he will replace it at no cost to the customer.

“It proves how healthy our puppies are so customers know what they are getting,” he said.

Perrone said a $25 discount on puppies is offered to police and firefighters “to show our support for all of the hard work they do for us.”

Anthony’s One-Stop Pet Shop also offers a variety of pet supplies by Perrone as well as materials for cats and fish, including aquariums and related equipment.

Perrone said he often seeks stock from pet stores that are going out of business so he can pass the savings on to his customers.

He said he’s exploring suppliers of pet foods to find one that will allow him to offer it at the best price for his clientele.

A 2002 graduate of Steubenville High School, Perrone studied business at the former Jefferson Community College. He said he has many family members in the Follansbee area and when the current location, home for many years to HR&S Video, became available, he was eager to move in.

Perrone thanked Vito “Skip” Cutrone, the building’s owner, for his efforts in renovating it. He said the setting offers both high visibility, as it is along state Route 2, and a small-town atmosphere.

Perrone said doing business in a small town and working with animals were key incentives to opening his own business.

“I enjoy everything involving animals. I have such a heart for animals and everything involving them,” said Perrone, who has four dogs, three cats and four bearded dragon lizards of his own.

Aiding Perrone are his fiance, Ronda Campbell, and her nephew, Billy Andress.
