Smithfield Storage opens along Route 151

SMITHFIELD – A new business has arrived in the village and will be a welcome addition to those needing to store snowblowers and anything else that is too large to be be housed on their property.

Paul Folmar, a Dillonvale resident, opened Smithfield Storage in early March and is accepting renters for the 50 units that are the standard size of 10-by-20 feet. There are units located on the property that was once the Blue Swan Restaurant that was popular in the 1960s and ’70s.

It burned to a shell many years ago but wasn’t available for sale until early 2013.

The site is now the location of burnt-red units and the ground has been leveled to handle traffic. The sloping hill will be landscaped in the near future.

Folmar is owner of Sunset Pizza and Ice Cream Creations, one-quarter of a mile from the units.

He saw a need for the storage places and American Steel Building had the job of putting them up.

“It took two weeks for them to put the units together. I had no idea what color to chose and the salesman said this would be eye-catching along the highway,” he said.

“We had to do a lot of cutting away of the land to put up the units and it took 250 tons of stone to cover the driving area,” he said.

Those interested in renting a unit can call the Sunset Pizza Shop (740) 733-7333 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $70 per unit.
