Wellsburg gym offers 24-hour availability
WELLSBURG – The owners of American Iron said they want the gym at 98 Seventh St. to be a convenient, comfortable place where men, women and teens can exercise.
“We welcome pretty much everybody – all ages,” said Amyelia Gaudio, adding she and co-owner A.J. Klein prefer that youth under 13 are accompanied by an adult.
The couple noted the gym is open 24 hours a day, with clients gaining access through a keycard system, to make it easier for everyone to fit exercise into their busy schedules.
“That’s what everybody loves. They can come in at 2 o’clock in the morning if they want,” said Gaudio.
Located not far from state Route 2, the gym also offers a variety of membership plans, from weekly on up, she said.
Klein said he and Gaudio are happy to help newcomers familiarize themselves with the gym’s assortment of equipment.
“We want them not to be afraid to ask questions,” he said.
The gym currently offers cardio equipment, stationary bikes, weight machines and free weights, among other equipment and there are plans to add more, said Gaudio.
The two also hope to add a nutrition bar, with protein drinks and bottled water and summer activities, including a cross-fit competition.
Gaudio said many women come to the gym to lose weight, while men often seek to add muscle. In either case, she stresses the importance of good nutrition.
“Nutrition is the biggest part,” agreed Klein.
The pair have been busy remodeling and repainting the gym since taking it over from Mark Jordan, who operated it as Jordan’s Gym for three years, initially on Charles Street.
Gaudio and Klein met at the gym and when Jordan decided to pursue other goals, welcomed the opportunity to follow their dream of running their own business.
A 2011 graduate of Brooke High School, Gaudio is studying exercise physiology at West Liberty University and is a girls basketball coach at Wellsburg Middle School.
A former Brooke Bruins basketball player, she said, “I’ve always been obsessed with anything involving fitness.”
A 2010 graduate of Weirton Madonna High School, Klein said, “I’ve always been into sports. I played baseball and football at Madonna and got into working out then.”
He also works for a construction firm in Washington, Pa.
Both are Wellsburg natives.
They encourage anyone interested in learning more about the gym to call them or visit them online at their Facebook page at AmericanIronGym or website at www.americaniron247.webstarts.com.
