Heavenly Bodies now open

TORONTO – Heavenly Bodies Fitness Club, 215 N. Fourth St., is now open for business after a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the city chamber.

“I originally started doing small classes on Feb. 3,” said Carrie Shaffer, owner. “I had about 10 members at the time. Over the past six months my classes have grown bigger and I realized that it was time to consider opening my own place.”

The business location is at the recently closed Gem City Youth Center.

Shaffer is certified as a personal trainer, group fitness and boot camp instructor and focuses on group circuit training, cardio fitness and jump training.

Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m. the club offers cardio max sessions, using all the same movements of the other circuit training classes for the higher intensity boot camp-style workout, a favorite of male clients, said Shaffer.

The Little Angels classes offer 45 minutes of instruction on healthy eating habits, exercise that includes child-based cardio, such as skipping, jumping jacks and leap frog followed by a lesson on one muscle group for the day using 1-pound dumbbells. Children’s class times are 9 a.m. and 10: 15 a.m. Saturdays.

“All classes can be modified for all skill levels. Beginners are encouraged to join. We do not just work out together – we are a family,” said Shaffer, adding she presently is working on adding Zumba and low-impact for seniors classes.
