WEIRTON — Mr. and Mrs. George Vukelich of Weirton are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary today with family and friends as they were honored kumovi for their church’s slava and anniversary celebration.

Vukelich and the former Diane Schultz Shaffer were united in marriage on Oct. 2, 1993, at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church in Steubenville with the Rev. Rade Merick officiating.

He is the son of the late Pete and Mary Sarap Vukelich. A mechanical engineer, he retired from the purchasing department of the former Weirton Steel with 32 years of service.

She is the daughter of the late Lewis and Ruth Walter Schultz. She is a registered nurse who retired from Weirton Medical Center, but also worked at the former osteopathic hospital, the operating room in the former Weirton General Hospital and founded Ohio Valley Parish Nursing.

They have two sons, Douglas Shaffer of Colliers and Michael A. Shealy of Gilbert, S.C., and a daughter, Kimberly Brandt of Butler, Pa.

They have eight grandchildren.
